Arm Pain Treatment in Cambridge, Ontario

Arm pain. It’s probably not one of the first things you think of when you think of chiropractic care. As a longtime Cambridge, Ontario chiropractor, we’ve helped thousands of clients in the wider Cambridge area find effective treatment for any number of discomforts, from back and neck pain to migraines and sciatica. Arm pain, too. Though often our clients don’t even think to start there when describing their discomfort. Why is that?

Here are 3 things to know about arm pain and chiropractic treatment:

1. Chiropractic care is known for the back and neck - but actually treats the whole body.

Yes, the back and neck are often focal points of chiropractic treatment and adjustments. That’s because this practice is all based on the health of the spine (which, of course, runs along the back and neck). But it’s not just the back and neck themselves that we’re treating when we do spinal adjustments. The spine is the body’s main channel of communication between body and brain. It carries messages that make their way to your internal organs, to your tissues, and to your limbs and outer extremities — and then it carries messages back from all of those places to your brain. So chiropractic adjustments help straighten the spine, in order to improve communication going to and from all areas of the body. We may work with the spine to treat your jaw, your digestive system, and yes even your arms.

2. Arm pain - especially upper arm pain - may be ‘referred’ from somewhere else.

‘Referred pain’ is a label used to describe pain that is felt in one area as the result of an issue somewhere else. Here’s a simple example: your left hip is out of alignment, which changes the way you walk to be a bit uneven, which causes soreness if your right calf. Similarly, it’s not uncommon for aim pain to actually be a reflection of pain that originates elsewhere, such as in the neck or upper back.

3. Chiropractic treatment is often effective at treating arm pain.

Certainly there are exceptions. If you have a broken bone, for example, or a muscle tear - those are acute and localized injuries, and chiropractic will not likely be your primary source of care. However, if your arm pain is a result of misalignment in your spine. Or referred pain from your neck or upper back. Or another reason involving the nervous system. Then chiropractic assessment and treatment, in the form of an adjustment, may be advised.

The good news is this: pain is not the body’s default mode. The science of chiropractic care is about restoring the spine to alignment, which optimizes communication between brain and body, which sets the body up to heal itself from injuries — and to thrive.

Relief from arm pain is possible.
